Free tools that make marketing your music easier
1. Spotify for Artists
Claim your profile. Then use it for two things:
- Pitch each unreleased song to Spotify's editors. If you pitch at least 7 days before release, Spotify adds it to your followers' Release Radar. Pitching doesn't guarantee a playlist.
- Read your data: where listeners are, which songs they save, and where streams come from.
2. Instagram Trial Reels
Trial Reels are shown to non-followers first, so you can test a hook or an idea before it reaches your grid. Use them to learn what makes strangers stop scrolling.
3. Instagram Collab posts
A Collab post appears on two accounts and is shown to both audiences. Partner with another artist, a producer or a venue and you reach listeners who already like music like yours.
4. Adobe Podcast Enhance
A free web tool that cleans up recorded speech, removing room echo and background noise. Useful for talking-to-camera videos shot at home. Don't push it too hard: it can make a voice sound processed.
5. A teleprompter app
If you talk to camera, put your script right under the lens. You'll look at the viewer instead of glancing away at your notes, and you'll need fewer takes.
6. A home you own
Instagram can change its algorithm overnight. A simple website or link page with your music, your story and a way to contact you is the one place you control. Put it in your bio.
The rule
Tools don't replace a plan. Start with one thing you want people to do, then pick the tool that helps them do it.
Questions people ask
Do I need paid tools to market my music?
No. The free tools covered here handle pitching, testing, collaboration, audio clean-up and a home base you own. Paid tools help with scale, not with starting.
How early should I pitch a song on Spotify?
Spotify says that if you pitch an unreleased song at least 7 days before release, it will be added to your followers' Release Radar playlists.
